News Release

Kuujjuaq, Nunavik, QC (October 11, 2024) – Today, students at Jaanimmarik School, Kuujjuaq, will have a live conversation with an astronaut who is on board the International Space Station. The contact will occur as the International Space Station travels at the speed of 28 000 km/h, about 400 km above the earth.

“Speaking with an astronaut is a fantastic opportunity. It allows students to have a very direct experience of science and can motivate them to pursue further their scientific interests,” said Jaanimmarik School Principal Gary Koiter.

This special program is coordinated by Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) in collaboration with Kativik Ilisarniliriniq, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The program is sponsored by Makivvik, Canadian North and Air Inuit.
