Longtime teacher at Ulluriaq School (Kangiqsualujjuaq) Daniel Annanack received one of the highest recognitions for a Nunavimmiut: The Order of Nunavik.

Coordinated by the Makivvik corporation, this award celebrates men and women of all ages and highlights their achievements in different fields. Each year Nunavummiut nominate fellow JBNQA beneficiaries for their leadership and innovation, and recipients are named Nunavik Role Models and inducted into the Order of Nunavik at a special award ceremony.

Over the course of his almost 20-year career, Daniel has distinguished himself by helping challenged youth become productive members of the community by mentoring them, teaching them invaluable life skills like hunting, and on occasion becoming a surrogate parent to many of the boys in his classes.

Nancy Etok, Vice Principal at Ulluriaq School nominated Daniel for the Order of Nunavik. “Daniel was the perfect recipient for this award, for all the incredible work he does to empower youth and people around him, by passing his incredible traditional knowledge and so much kindness. Daniel, I am so very proud to call you our friend and we feel truly blessed to have you in our lives.”

From everyone at Kativik Ilisarniliriniq: Thank you so much Daniel for your ongoing contributions to teaching our youth.
